 Group Info Minimize
The Edmonton .NET User Group is an organization which has the purpose of fostering and fueling the .NET community in Edmonton. One of the ways that we are working to accomplish this goal is to provide local and out of town speakers on a monthly schedule.  We attempt to schedule speaker events for the last Thursday of the month, but sometimes scheduling conflicts prevent this.  Watch here for the exact date and times of all the events.  Regardless of the speaker or event we work to provide at no cost to the members of the community.

Come out to our events and learn from industry experts and your peers!

 July 08 Meeting Minimize

Next Meeting: Thursday, July 31st at the Edmonton Public Library; doors are open at 5:30 and the presentation will start at 6 PM.

ABSTRACT:

ASP.NET MVC
OnLoad, OnPreRender, OnRender, OnInit. Traditional web forms development makes it sound like you're some crazed Santa Claus born from the imagination of Tim Burton. But it doesn't have to be that way.

In this session, Kyle will free you from the shackles of the ASP.NET event model and show you a shiny, happy world. A world where web developers write application code, not plumbing. A world where "ViewState" is the eighth word you can't say on television (with respects to the late, great George Carlin).

Such a world does exist. In fact, you've already seen it. But in this presentation, you'll wet your pants from excitement, not fear of getting shot. We'll see how MVC is done the Microsoft way and how it has evolved over the last few months. We'll look at how MVC can make your applications more testable and easier to maintain. And we'll evaluate when you should use an MVC implementation and when a traditional web forms implementation is more appropriate. (Hint: To answer the second question, we'll be bending the laws of gravity with respect to porcine animals.)

BIO:

Kyle Baley is an independent consultant of ten years experience most of which is in the Microsoft world. He has developed Web and Smart Client applications for companies of all sizes and in a variety of industries, adding a little more to his knowledge base with every project. Kyle currently makes his home base in the Bahamas waiting patiently for the day when wireless internet access reaches the beaches of the Caribbean Sea. Until then, he uses his experience as a speaker at user groups and developer conferences to preside over the Bahamas .NET User Group, the first of its kind in the country.
